Using the Bharata Natyam dance vocabulary & jazz influenced freestyle movements Swetha & Ramaa portray the transformational stages through which immigrants rediscover their roots in their new home, Initially commissioned by the Skirball Center, Los Angeles, in 2005, JWALA-FLAME was nominated for Lester Horton Dance Award in March 2007, presented at the historic Downtown Dance Festival in NY in Aug 2007 and selected for national telecast on PBS in December 2007. |
