ANGAHARA DANCE ENSEMBLE (Ramaa & Swetha Bharadvaj) In “JWALA – Flame” The 26th Annual Downtown Dance Festival The Lawn at Battery Park (entrance at State & Pearl) New York, NY Admission FREE
Ramaa & Swetha Bharadvaj’s “JWALA-Flame” is dedicated to the Statue of Liberty.
It portrays the transformational stages through which immigrants rediscover their roots in their new home. The unusual choreography combines Bharata Natyam dance vocabulary with jazz inspired movements to tell this story.
“JWALA-Flame” was telecast on PBS in 2006 and was nominated for Lester Horton Dance Award in March 2007.
The Annual Downtown Dance Festival of NY, which invites high caliber dancers and choreographers to present original works in a free public forum, has come to be regarded as Manhattan’s historic summer event. |
